ASB hosted its annual Election Convention on March 28 in the theater to determine ASB elected positions for the 2025-2026 school year.
Aside from the preliminaries for the Spirit and Rally commissioners, which determined the top four candidates for each position, the other preliminaries determined the top two candidates.
Junior Jamie Youn was elected ASB President while junior Kesin Jayakumar was elected ASB Vice President. Freshman Jake Wang was voted Sophomore President, and freshman Carter Lo was voted Sophomore Vice President. Sophomores Claire Kim and Lauren Slade were elected Junior President and Vice President respectively, while juniors Blayze Borroto and Justin Tokko were elected Senior President and Vice President.
“I have nothing but respect for all the candidates that put themselves out there,” ASB Director and Social Studies teacher Emily Sheridan said. “The confidence and thoughtfulness of all candidates was apparent, and their bravery and courage in taking this risk in front of people is really apparent.”
ASB President Justin Hwang, ASB Vice President Zoe Wynn, ASB Treasurer Ke Yuan and ASB Secretary Cali Smith prepared a list of questions for candidates during the first round. During the second round, candidates answered questions posed by delegates.
“[Many] of the candidates went to the third round,” Wynn said. “That was really surprising for us, because we’ve never had votes this close. I think all the candidates did really well in answering all the questions, which is why the votes were so close on so many of the positions.”
Delegates from each advisement voted between candidates in the first round, though candidates proceeded into the second round if they did not gain a majority vote of 66% or more, according to Wynn.
Junior Frances Lee and freshman Bravo Borroto were elected Girls and Boys Athletic Commissioner respectively, while junior Miranda Perdomo and junior Michael were elected Spirit and Rally Commissioners.
“Many delegates, hopefully, can use this opportunity to encourage themselves to learn [about ASB] next year, if possible,” ASB Treasurer and senior Ke Yuan said. “Mainly it’s to support those who support the school, to support those who would love to be more involved on school campus.”
ASB held an interest meeting for appointed positions on April 10, which will require a personal project submission and interviews to determine eligibility. Appointed positions will be announced at the beginning of May.
