Freshmen and Link Crew leaders gathered in the Student Union to prepare for their finals at the end of the semester with a study party on Nov. 19. The event was organized by Link Crew as a way to help freshmen adjust their study schedules for final exams by providing peer support and hot cocoa.
The study party was designed with interactive planner activities and a presentation about finals week to encourage collaborative learning between underclassmen and upperclassmen and allow students to assess their study habits. Link Crew leaders offered personalized guidance, sharing tips to reduce test anxiety and creating academic plans in a relaxed environment, according to Link Crew board member and senior Drake DePasquale.
“By having an event where all of our leaders are supporting, all of our freshmen are able to get the same advice and the same help,” Link Crew co-adviser and art teacher Kearci Thompson said. “I’m hoping that they’re able to get a better picture of what this next phase is going to look like these next few weeks, where they start to take their first finals.”
This is Link Crew’s second year hosting a study party for freshmen. For the fall semester, they’ve implemented improvements to ensure the event runs smoothly, such as Link Crew Board dedicating time to plan activities, make posters and advertise the event alongside PTSA, according to Thompson.
“This is a great opportunity to stop whatever you’re doing, just enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and just start studying,” freshman Alison Bauchat said. “Sometimes you just got to take some time to yourself, focus on what you have to do, and then plan it out so that you’re not stressed in the future.”
Future Link Crew events will continue to support freshmen and their families, with the final event of the school year being Family Night on March 19, when link leaders will introduce rising freshmen to campus.
