The Los Angeles Dodgers (93-69) clinched back-to-back championships on Nov. 1, 2025, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays (94-68) in the 2025 Major League Baseball World Series.
In game one in Toronto, the Blue Jays opened with an 11-4 win over the Dodgers. The win was sealed by a nine-run sixth inning.
The Dodgers responded with a 5-1 victory in Toronto, led by dominant pitching from pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Catcher Will Smith and third-baseman Max Muncy both hit seventh-inning home runs to even the series at 1-1.
“Watching how the Dodgers bounced back in game two showed how resilient both teams were,” said physical education teacher Bryan Resnick. “Each game felt like a response to whatever happened the night before, which made the series feel even more intense.”
Game three in Los Angeles became an 18-inning marathon, as the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 6-5 when first-baseman Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off home run to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead in the series.
The Blue Jays answered again in game four and beat the Dodgers 6-2 in Los Angeles. First-baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run home run off pitcher and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani. A four-run seventh inning sealed the win, tying the series 2-2.
“What really stood out to me was how quickly momentum shifted,” Resnick said. “A team could take a tough loss one night and come right back the next, and game four was a perfect example of that.”
The Blue Jays struck again in game five with a 6-1 win, led by rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage, who tallied 12 Dodger strikeouts. Early back-to-back home runs by left-fielder David Schneider and Guerrero Jr. gave the Blue Jays a 3-2 series lead.
In game six, the Dodgers, facing elimination, earned a 3-1 win to force game seven. Yamamoto delivered another strong outing, and a third-inning rally produced the Dodgers’ runs. The Blue Jays’ ninth-inning hopes ended in an unusual fashion when third-baseman Addison Barger hit a line drive that lodged under the outfield wall padding, preventing a tying run, according to The Washington Post.
“Game six was a really great game to have us win in the very end,” school nurse and Dodgers fan Nicole Vicioso said. “The players that made the most impact were the ones who were not the stars.”
In the decisive game seven, the Blue Jays took an early 3-0 lead before the Dodgers fought back behind a home run in the eighth, while infielder Miguel Rojas tied the game 4-4 with a ninth-inning home run. Smith’s go-ahead home run in the 11th inning and Yamamoto’s dominant pitching secured the win for the Dodgers. Yamamoto was named World Series MVP.
“They’re a cohesive team,” Vicioso said. “All the players are important, not just Shoehei, not just Mookie, not just Freddie. Everybody [contributed] and they all [had] a responsibility, and that really shows a lot of teamwork.”
