Students gathered outside the football field during the Homecoming football game on Oct.10 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Portola High through student-led festivities and food trucks.
Students had the opportunity to receive food provided by two different trucks, serving up shaved ice and other desserts. While waiting for the homecoming game to begin, students indulged in complimentary snacks while being able to chat and catch up with friends.
“I’m meeting new people as well because [of] my friends,” freshmen Dean Bitterlich said. “It’s great to meet new people and make new friends.”
Students could be seen walking around the event with purple stripes coating their faces or a bulldog paw painted on their hands. Complimentary face painting was offered by the National Art Honors Society (NAHS) to raise school spirit and Bulldog pride. Face painting also allowed students to better connect with each other, according to NAHS member and sophomore Audrey Hisao.
“My favorite person I did was my friend Mia because we’re really close friends,” Hisao said. “That was a really nice bonding moment because it was a very close and intimate [moment].”
A photobooth station was set up for the Bulldogs to commemorate the anniversary with friends. From striking peace signs with sunglasses to posing with a giant cardboard hand, the photobooth station had many interactive props for the students. Underclassmen start to join the school community by participating in these events and showing their school spirit.
“Since it’s a 10th year anniversary, [the event connected] everyone together,” freshman Sophia Rhim said. “It was a very fun night with a lot of cheering and just spirit from everyone.”
With a decade at Portola gone by, students can look forward to other upcoming events. ASB will be hosting different lunchtime activities during the week of Oct. 27 for Red Ribbon Week.
