Tamara Bradley is the Assistant Arts and Entertainment Editor for her second year on the Portola Pilot. In the new school year, she is eager to write more exhilarating stories with the limited time she has. When she is not having a breakdown while studying for AP Biology, you can find her watching hour-long mukbangs, chronically online shopping, or listening to her Spotify playlists on repeat.

As the school year progresses, the Badminton club looks for ways to get people more involved. “During club meetings, we will try to plan events [that have] fun activities for the students to do,” Xu said. “So currently, we're just letting them have fun and just hang out with their friends, but we're trying to make a competitive team in this school.”

As the school year continues, Intervention Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA) and science teacher Erin Arredondo continue to look for additional ways that can ensure that students will be on time to class. “I've been able to have positive conversations with students when they are reaching certain levels [of tardiness],” Arredondo said. “They've been very receptive and have stated they're going to try to get here on time. We try to help them figure out ways or identify how they can get here on time.”

While developing the expansion of bus routes in Irvine, Irvine’s city council aims to reduce traffic of all kinds, especially traffic around schools. “I want to make sure these shuttles are accessible to students,” said Irvine city council member Kathleen Treseder. “One of the things we've prioritized as we're designing our routes is to make sure that they go by as many high schools as possible, and also possible middle and elementary schools, because we want students to be able to take those to school. The traffic around schools is terrible. So, the more people we can get onto the shuttles, the better the drop off will be for everybody else.”

Despite the scrutiny that Harvard University has been facing from the Trump’s administration’s threat to withdraw funding, many students are taking a stand with Harvard president Alan Garber, according to CNN US. In their fight to maintain academic freedom, students have gathered in rallies on Harvard’s campus to protest. "Schools aren't simply institutions for learning, but also where students talk about values, current events and ideas,” sophomore Aarohi Kshemkkalyani said. “As political issues reach more of the younger generation through social media and increased youth interest, it is not surprising that schools become a part of the conversation. It is crucial that schools allow for respectful dialogue, creating safe spaces for students without any outside political pressures.”

Skateboarding may come as a solo sport for some, but behind most skaters is a story shaped by family, friends and the people they ride with. “The first time I ever tried skateboarding was with some family friends,” sophomore Khonsu Marshall said. “They made doing tricks look so effortless, and that’s what initially drew me to it, despite the fact that most tricks are actually very difficult to learn. I borrowed my first skateboard from the family friends I mentioned before. I’m not sure where they got it from, but the paint splatter design on the back interested me. It was very easy to maneuver, and riding it felt very smooth.”
