Dear Portola Pilot Readers,
About one week before we were scheduled to release another print issue of the Portola Pilot, we received notice that IUSD had decided to close all schools and facilities, effective immediately, due to the growing concerns of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Due to these circumstances, we present this month’s issue of the Pilot digitally for our community to read.
We know that this time can bring lots of fear, anxiety and confusion among the spread of speculation and rumors, but we want to encourage everyone to continue to do research and to read information from reliable sources before coming to conclusions. We’ve included the most recent information regarding COVID-19, but this information is subject to change as the situation continues to be monitored.
While this pandemic has a large impact on Portola High, IUSD and the Irvine community, it is important to us that we continue to do what we do best: delivering information of the utmost integrity and quality to our readers.
The Portola Pilot will be updating the latest news on COVID-19 and continuing regular school coverage on portolapilot.com and @portolapilot on Instagram and Facebook. Questions, comments and concerns can be sent to [email protected] and may be featured in a future Letter to the Editor. We thank you all for continuing to support student journalism by reading our stories.
Wishing you well,
Helena Hu and Simrat Singh

Nice work! Even college newspapers are shutting down due to the virus, so it is uplifting to see that younger high school students are continuing to perservere.
