It was approximately 12:20 when I entered room 1755 for my eighth period. Even though it looked the same as the rooms of other buildings, there was something off about it that I couldn’t explain. Like the uncanny valley, it had all the hallmarks of a typical building, but there was just an eerie vibe that made me uneasy as I stepped into the empty room.
I don’t know if I was just early, but the classroom was strangely deserted. The desks were neatly arranged in rows, and the fluorescent lights shone so harshly that they almost blinded me. As I dragged my hand across the wall to check if I wasn’t hallucinating, I felt something give way, and my hand clipped through the wall. I stumbled over my feet in shock and fell headfirst into the wall.
Stuck in the new building? You might be in the backrooms instead.

She hopes to finish out this year by continuing her addiction to signing up for 6 stories every cycle and calling her former senior friends at every opportunity to console herself after they departed this world (school). Claire Liu, Humor Editor
Claire Liu is the Humor Editor and a Business Manager for her third and final year on the Portola Pilot. This year, she will try her best not to double the given word count. If she’s not in a depressive mood because of the state of the country, you can find her listening to dead jazz players, watching long-form improv sessions or crying because Sonia is no longer her boss.
