Only one week after the movie debuted in theaters, “Ralph Breaks the Internet” has a domestic gross of $143,334,185.

When the idea of “Ralph Breaks the Internet” was released to the public on June 30, 2016, many Disney fans were excited to hear that the movie would also showcase classic characters such as the Disney princesses. “Ralph Breaks the Internet” takes place in the time period when Wi-Fi was first established, and the movie features a more modern style than the original movie which took place in an arcade.

In the journey of Vanellope and Ralph travelling to find a missing game piece from “Sugar Rush,” they venture to the otherwise unrevealed area known as the internet. On this adventure, allusions to many popular websites such as Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter are mentioned. Additionally, the website “Oh My Disney” is featured, where popular characters such as Peter Pan, stormtroopers and Grumpy from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” live.

Upon watching the trailer, it seemed as though a majority of the movie would be focused around Vanellope and Ralph meeting adjacent Disney characters. However, fans may be disappointed to learn that this portion of the movie only lasted for around five minutes.

The storyline of the original film had a long lasting, heartwarming effect on the audience that this movie did not achieve. While watching, I felt no connection with the new characters introduced, such as Shank (voiced by Gal Gadot), who is a character in the online racing game “Slaughter Race.”

Returning celebrity voice actors include John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch. There was also no suspense that left audience members on the edge of their seats, and the outcome of the movie seemed predictable. This movie would be perfect to see with children, such as siblings or younger cousins. However, I would not recommend to watch this film with friends for a movie night.
