In an interview with Elite Daily, Robert Glatter, an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital, explains how having a crush on someone can cause the release of dopamine and serotonin. Due to the release of these “feel-good” chemicals, the beginning stages of love can make you feel good mentally, and may even act as a form of self-motivation.

Senior:

“I just look forward to seeing his face every day, and when I see him smile, I can’t help but smile.”

Junior:

“Whenever we talk, and he gets just as random and weird as I am, it makes me so beyond happy that I don’t even know how to describe it. Also, I get really smiley, and I have to try and hide it, but it’s the best feeling.”

Junior:

“I’ve been talking to him for almost a year now, and I think about him 24/7. When I see him I get so happy, and I wouldn’t mind if he stopped my flow of air.”

Junior:

“My crush makes me feel complete, content and happy. I don’t feel satisfied or safe without her, and I have the most fun with her.”

Senior:

“She is sweet, kind and always spreading positive and fun energy all the time.”

Sophomore:

“I feel happier and a lot more confident in myself when I’m around him. I literally feel like nothing in the world can make me sad when I’m with him. Everything is just happy.”

Sophomore:

“He’s one of the sweetest people I know, and he always makes me laugh until I start tearing up. He’s just an overall wholesome person to be around.”

Sophomore:

“She’s one of my best friends and one of the nicest people I know. She’s here for me whenever I need anything.”

Freshman:

“I feel really happy around him, and he can actually keep a decent conversation.”

Sophomore:

“He makes me feel like I could possibly have a chance of being in a happy relationship if the feeling was mutual, but it’s always risky if they aren’t… which is the scary thing.”

Sophomore:

“My crush makes me want to be a better person. Whenever I see them, I feel a kind of happiness that only they can cause. I just want to constantly smile! I can feel my face flush when they compliment and congratulate me, but they don’t point it out or make me feel embarrassed. I enjoy spending time with them and feel so free to be around them!”

Sophomore:

“My crush makes my nerves twitchy and my heart throb out of my chest.”
