S4 Episode 02: Letters of Recommendation from Teachers’ POVs

Many students find themselves confused as they begin to navigate the letter of recommendation process. In this episode, our hosts Elise Ngo and Stephanie Hwang discuss this process with social studies teachers Kathryn Beechinor and Wind Ralston to help future students with any questions they may have.

Elise Ngo is the Features Editor for her second and final year on the Portola Pilot. When not obsessing over Instagram labradoodles or harassing her older sister to buy Cha for Tea popcorn chicken, you can find her having existential crises during hikes in Shady Canyon while listening to her favorite musicals. In the newsroom, if not being mixed up with Maddie, she’s abusing em dashes and asking Tara for headline puns. She’s thrilled for another year with her divine Pilot peers.

Tyler Kim is an Editor-in-Chief for his third and final year writing for the Portola Pilot. Besides the production's monthly spreadsheet, you'll be sure to find in his tabs a seemingly random Wikipedia page filled with purple links, far too many podcast subscriptions on Spotify and numerous second-draft comments where he advises writers that their diction may not be the mot juste. If you wish to pique his interest mention a Wes Anderson film, Aaron Sorkin show, Pax Romana or the New Yorker crossword (unless it's a Monday).
