Laguna Hills High joins the Pacific Coast League after having been in the Coast View Conference since August 2017, increasing competition for CIF tournaments.

As of the 2020-21 school year, the CIF Southern Section has admitted Laguna Hills High to the Pacific Coast League.

Every two years, principals and athletics directors from across the county collectively discuss changes that should be made to the league, according to athletics director Peter Abe. For football, the group decided to add Dana Hills High to the Pacific Coast Conference.

Aside from increasing competition in league competitions and CIF tournaments, the change has little impact on Portola High’s athletes and allows them to broaden the diversity in who they play against.

“[There are] no major changes for the athletic department outside of working with another school’s administration, athletic department, players and coaches,” Abe said. “Laguna Hills has historically been in the Pacific Coast League in the past, so it’s like welcoming a sibling back home after an extended vacation away from the family.”
