Three Easy Desserts to Make With Strawberry Puree

Julia Kim, Opinion Editor

With stores closing or shortening operation hours, it may be difficult to get your hands on your favorite drinks or desserts. But if your favorite flavor is strawberry, these three recipes may be the perfect alternatives.

First, we are going to make strawberry puree. This will become the base ingredient for the following three desserts.

Strawberry Puree

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of strawberries
  • 2-3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons of water

*Note: If your strawberries are ripe, you can opt for two tablespoons of sugar. Mine were not as ripe, so I used three. Make sure the amount of sugar you use matches how much water you put in.

Steps:

  1. Remove the stems and cut the strawberries into small cubes.
  2. Put strawberries, sugar and water together in a pot.
  3. Bring to a boil.
  4. Once you start to see frothy bubbles, mash your strawberries with a potato masher until you begin to see a thick syrup consistency. It’s okay to have strawberry chunks!
    1. NOTE: you can use a fork or a metal strainer as an alternative to a potato masher.

Strawberry Matcha Latte

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 tablespoons of Strawberry Puree
  • 3 tablespoons of Matcha Powder
  • ½ cup of Milk

Steps:

  1. Open a packet of matcha powder and combine with hot water. If you have loose matcha powder, use three tablespoons of matcha and pour four tablespoons of hot water.
  2. Mix this matcha concentration for two minutes.
  3. Get a clear glass and add three spoonfuls of strawberry puree.
  4. Scoop ice into the glass. Make sure you add the ice in after the strawberry puree.
  5. Fill about three-fourths of the glass with milk.
  6. Fill the remainder of the cup with the matcha mix.
    1. NOTE: For pretty layers, you need to pour slowly!

Strawberry Milk Tea

Ingredients:

  1. 3 tablespoons of strawberry puree
  2. Tea Bag (Oolong/Jasmine/Ceylon)
  3. 1 ¼ cups of milk
  4. 2-3 teaspoons of honey or sugar additive

Steps:

  1. Pour in about one cup of hot water and add one tea bag. Let it rest for at least five minutes.
    1. NOTE: I recommend a ceylon or jasmine tea bag, but I’ve been noticing that these are sold-out. This drink is still delicious with oolong, though!
  2. Once the tea is ready, take out the tea bag and pour 1¼ cups of milk.
  3. Add sweetener. I recommend two teaspoons of honey, but you can use anything from agave syrup to fructose.
  4. For a strawberry milk tea, pour three to four tablespoons of strawberry puree into a cup, add ice, and then pour the milk tea on top.
    1. NOTE: If you don’t like tea, you can easily make strawberry milk. Just put 3-4 tablespoons of strawberry puree, pour ice and then add two cups of milk.

Strawberry Chia Seed Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of strawberry puree
  • 5 tablespoons of chia seeds
  • 5 tablespoons of milk
  • 2 teaspoons of honey/sugar additive

Steps:

  1. Pour five tablespoons of chia seeds into a bowl. Add five tablespoons of milk and sweeten as desired.
    1. I normally put one teaspoon of honey.
  2. Mix well.
  3. In a dessert bowl, put as much strawberry puree as desired. I recommend three.
  4. Pour chia seed mixture on top.
  5. Wrap with plastic wrap and let it refrigerate for at least two hours.
